In this workshop students will learn the fundamentals of lost wax glass casting by transforming a found or sculpted object into glass. This will include wax-sculpting, glass cutting and calculation, basic cold-working, and firing theory. Silicone mold-making will be discussed and demonstrated. Students will leave class with a finished glass object.

This course is suitable for all skill levels, including absolute beginners. Limited space available (class size is limited to 4 people).

Class Schedule:

  • Saturday, May 18: 10:00am - 5:00pm

    • Wax working

    • Sprues, vents, and reservoirs

    • Silicone mold-making demo

  • Sunday, May 19: 10:00am - 5:00pm

    • Additional wax working time if needed

    • Mold-making, steam out, volume calculations

    • Cut and prep glass, load kiln

    • Firing Lecture

  • Monday, May 20: 10:00am - 5:00pm (Optional work day)

    • Optional workday to complete any remaining steps (mold-making, steam out, volume calculations, cut and prep glass and load kiln)

  • Saturday, May 25: 10:00am - 1:00pm

    • Divest artwork

    • Cold-working
